In this age of mega-grocery and convenience store chains, big box retailers and the general corporatizing of America, independent mom-and-pop stores have struggled—and in many cases, failed—to survive. They know it's a losing battle if they try to compete on price with the big guys. But that doesn't mean they haven't been able to give consumers something they can't always find at their local strip malls: a chance to try something not seen on TV.
