Riding the wave of "better-for-you" drinks, Bundaberg naturally brewed,
alcohol-free drinks from Australia have such a good reception in SA
that they are now being produced locally.
Rubin Beverages started importing Bundaberg products early last year.
Bundaberg is a family-owned enterprise based in Bundaberg, Australia.
It brews beverages from "age old recipes" using only natural
ingredients (ginger root for ginger beer, angostura bark bitters and
peaches for its other variants).
Fermentation is halted during the brewing process and alcohol is
removed. The products are lightly carbonated. They are aimed at
consumers who prefer a healthy alternative to soft drinks.
Bundaberg is best known for its ginger beer. Other products are Lemon
Lime & Bitters and Peachee; all are available in diet variants.
The drinks, available at Pick 'n Pay and other stores, have been
''overwhelmingly received'' in SA, despite being pricey, according to
Rubin.
Local production started in November 2006.
